The senior choir at St Michael & All Angels is arguably one of the best church choirs in Hampshire.
The choir leads the services each Sunday morning (except the 1st Sunday of the month, when the junior choir sings). It also sings Choral Evensong on the 2nd & 4th Sundays - one of the very few churches in Southampton to offer this most beautiful service.
The choir regularly sings in nearby cathedrals, with invitations to sing prominent services at both Winchester and Chichester Cathedrals.
During August they travel further afield to take residence at a cathedral for a longer period. In recent years the choir has visited:
2001 Bristol
2003 Lichfield
2004 Sherborne & Winchester
2005 Wakefield, Sheffield & Winchester
2006 Bath & Winchester
2007 Romsey, Llandaff & Winchester

The choir is always glad to hear from potential new members. Joining the choir is a substantial commitment, with members expected to attend the vast majority of the weekly rehearsals (Thursday 7.30pm to 9pm) and Sunday services.
New members need to have strong music reading skills, as the choir gets through a lot of music in fairly limited rehearsal time. Being a fluent sight-reader isn't essential, but you need to be able to learn fast! We don't audition as such, but once you've settled in there will be an informal voice test to make sure everything's alright. Given the large commitment, we are very happy for potential members to come and check us out before committing. If you're interested, please either say hello after a service (don't worry... the choir's a friendly bunch!) or email the Director of Music.
